Classical foundations. Contemporary expression.
For artists who want to transform portraiture into compelling contemporary work.
At RossoArtSchool, you’ll master the figurative-abstract method that takes you from technical portraits to powerful large-scale pieces.
Through expressive grounds and material experimentation, you’ll learn to create contemporary portraits where realism and abstraction work as one visual language - moving beyond copying references into authentic, personal work you’re genuinely proud of.
Whether you’re a realist painter seeking more freedom, an abstract painter looking for structure, or just beginning your journey, you’ll be guided in a way that meets you where you are — and supports your individual direction forward.

You’ll learn classical principles and a practical framework to help you think clearly, navigate complexity, and develop your own visual language — whatever direction your work takes.
Hi, I'm Rosso
a London-based painter and founder of the school.
After more than sixteen years of professional studio practice — alongside exhibitions, awards, and years of teaching — I began to notice a pattern: many artists weren’t lacking talent or discipline, but a method they could actually use when painting became difficult.
I had spent years developing a way of working rooted in classical realism — not as a style to imitate, but as a structure to think with — and then deliberately testing it through material experimentation, risk, and real studio problem-solving.
I began sharing this approach in 2018, both in person and online. As the demand grew through my community of over 190K followers on Instagram, it became clear that this work needed a dedicated home.
In 2024, I founded Rosso Art School to bring everything I’d learned through years of painting and teaching into a clear, practice-led framework artists could return to again and again.
In the first year, over 450 artists have enrolled in the school, alongside more than 700 students who have attended my workshops and courses in person.
The school is proudly supported by Cass Art, Michael Harding Paints, and ProArte Brushes, and continues to grow into an international community of artists who value structure and skill — and are ready to challenge them.

Since the official launch in 2024, over 200 artists from around the world have joined Rosso Art School — and their growth, feedback, and paintings have become an essential part of how this school continues to evolve. Here’s what they’re saying:
Nicky Stefanelli (California)
"Rosso is able to work individually with each person and gets a feeling for what your strengths are and help you improve in places where you are struggling"
Maria Gabriela S. (NY)
"Many thanks for making me see and understanding painting"
Fritz Forstner (Germany)
I really appreciate all the content you are putting in to your art school . I’m still on the drawing realism section as I’m savouring every morsel of information and I can’t believe how much I’ve learnt so far and how you have motivated and excited me to work hard and experiment. When I’m not doing the art I’m thinking about it !
