FOR ARTISTS WHO ARE READY
You've seen paintings that stop you. Portraits that pull you in. Intricate abstract grounds. You wonder if you could create that.
Yes. You can.
This is where You Learn How.
COMPLETE is the programme that gives you everything you need to develop a personal expressive style beyond portraiture — from first sketch to finished body of work.

━━━━
- You've fallen in love with portraiture — with the idea of creating something that truly moves people. You're not sure where to start. That's exactly where this begins.
- You've been painting for a while but your paintings don't come together. The portrait feels off. The background feels stuck on. You can see what good looks like — but something isn't clicking yet.
- You have the technique and experience. Your portraits are solid. But you want more than accuracy — you want to see how other artists create. A different perspective. A new approach that challenges how you paint and pushes you further.

Why portraits alone
were never enough.
From the beginning, I wanted to create more than just portraits. Work that could resonate with people who did not know me. Work that could find its way out there.
But it took ten years of serious practice before the technique finally caught up with the vision. Ten years before the paintings became what I always knew they could be. This is that story — and why I built COMPLETE around everything I learned along the way.
If this resonates — you already know what to do.

WHAT COMPLETE ACTUALLY GIVES YOU
━━━━
Everything you need.
In one place.
COMPLETE is not one more course to add to the pile. It is a structured programme that takes you from developing individual skills to creating real paintings — paintings that belong together as a personal body of work.
By the end you will have
— CLASSICAL portrait skills in oil — drawing, value, colour, form
— Experience building expressive mixed media grounds and integrating them with the figure
— A repeatable process for taking a painting from first idea to final surface
— A series of contemporary figurative works for your portfolio.
—A clearer sense of your own style — and the confidence to push forward.
in their words...
"Rosso's guiding presence and experimental approach brought the painter in me back."
After art school, motherhood, and even spinal surgery, I thought my painting days were behind me — until her mentoring reignited my passion and gave me purpose again.
PAULA MICHELE WAGONER, Florida
"I’m taking steps I thought I could no longer take"
I’ve felt creatively blocked since Covid — and suddenly, ideas returned. A new series is beginning. For me, this is a victory over myself. Thank you, Rosso. I’m taking steps I thought I could no longer take.
Florence Liger d’Avignon, France
THE CURRICULUM
What you'll master
inside COMPLETE
The programme is organised into four sequential parts, taking you from foundational drawing and portrait painting through colour, mixed media, composition, and ultimately the creation of finished contemporary paintings.
MODULE 01
Realist Portrait Drawing
The most common reason portraits don't look convincing? The structure underneath is wrong. Not the rendering, not the colour — the bones. Once you understand a few key anatomical landmarks and how to place them correctly, everything changes. Flat becomes three-dimensional. Guessing becomes building.
In this in-depth module you'll learn how to construct the portrait with precision — proportion, likeness, volume, gesture. By the end you'll have:
— A reliable drawing process you can apply to any portrait
— A stronger understanding of how to achieve depth
— Drawings that are ready to become paintings, not just sketches in a sketchbook
10+ Hours · 4 Complete Drawing Projects · Bonus Lectures · Downloadable Guide
MODULE 02
Portrait Painting in Oil
Why oil portraits look muddy or unconvincing? You're copying the photograph — matching flat colours from a flat image. Realist portrait painting is not about copying. It's about learning to see — to simplify, divide and rebuild what's in front of you into something that feels more real than the reference itself.
In this module, I take you through two complete portrait paintings from start to finish. You'll learn how to:
— Sketch, transfer, and construct the portrait using different approaches;
— Mix realistic skin tones for different complexions
— Use value, colour, and edges intentionally to create stronger portraits
— Finish with expressive backgrounds, in oils/acrylics
20+ Hours · 2 Complete Portrait Painting Projects · Bonus Lectures · Downloadable Guide
MODULE 03
Abstract Grounds in Mixed Media
Most artists assume "oil painting" means oil from start to finish. But some of the richest, most expressive surfaces come from mixing oil with fast-drying water-based mediums underneath and then working oil on top. Once you understand how to layer these properly, the ground stops being a blank canvas and becomes the most exciting part of the painting.
Here I share the exact process I use to create the layered, mixed-media grounds behind many of my paintings. You'll learn how to build rich surfaces that become an active part of the painting process. You'll learn to:
— Manipulate materials to create intricate layered surfaces using stencils, gold leaf, acrylics, spray paint, plus a variety of traditional and unexpected tools
— Combine oil painting with water-based and fast-drying media effectively
— Use abstract grounds to transform a simple portrait study into a more original and expressive work of art

MODULE 04
From Idea to Finished Painting: The Full Studio Process
When you see a stunning painting by a professional artist, you assume it came naturally — pure talent, one sitting, effortless. It didn't. What separates a professional practice from an amateur one isn't talent. It's planning. Research, brainstorming, sketches, colour studies — all before a single brushstroke hits the final canvas.
In this module I show you exactly the complete process I use to develop my own work — and how to apply it to your own paintings. You'll learn how to:
— Generate, collect, and organise ideas and references
— Develop sketches and colour studies to test compositions, mood, and direction
— Scale small studies into more ambitious paintings
— Plan your process to avoid abandoning paintings
— Transform your initial ideas into finished contemporary paintings in your own style

MORE HAPPY STUDENTS:
"Hey Rosso! First, I want to thank you for the great program...You have influenced me and my work in such a positive and fulfilling way. Thank you so much
Fritz Fostner, Germany
"I went from stiff portraits to contemporary work with 'crazy' backgrounds."
What makes this program so powerful is that it's not just about one style. You learn the solid, classical foundations of portraiture, but then Rosso shows you how to loosen them up, experiment, and develop a style that is truly yours. It's the key to moving beyond just copying a photo and actually creating art.
Sharon Blake

"I finally understood how to make the background work."
I always struggled with backgrounds—they felt separate from the figure and made my portraits feel stiff. This program was the breakthrough. I finally understood how to make the background and the figure work together as one cohesive piece. Learning to work with texture and simplify my palette completely changed my approach.

"Rosso is able to work individually with each person and gets a feeling for what your strengths are and help you improve in places where you are struggling"
Nicky Stefanelli (California)
What I wanted to express is my big thanks to you for two main things: that I learned so much and that you give me a unbelievable great motivation to paint in every free minute / hour (beside my fulltime job)
Mariana S. , Mexico
Thank you for teaching me how to finally see and paint with confidence. This is my first oil portrait, and for the first time I was able to mix rich, luminous skin tones — without mud, without fear.

MEET ROSSO,
painter and founder of RossoArtSchool —
this is how it all started.
After years of mastering classical portraiture, I became obsessed with finding a new artistic language that could fuse traditional discipline with contemporary energy.
I spent many more years in the studio experimenting until things clicked. The work that emerged brought me international recognition and a big following on Instagram of artists asking to learn from me.
COMPLETE is my answer. It's the programme where I distilled 15 years of intense practice. If I could go back in time, I would enrol in Complete straight away. Here's a link to my personal work.
